September 2014: Medal of Excellence in the "Artists for Conservation" Festival
David's "Jewels of Madagascar" was awarded a second MEDAL OF EXCELLENCE during the 2014 "Artists for Conservation" Festival.
The Festival is a 10-day art and environmental education happening, featuring the world-top conservation themed art exhibit and sale with leading nature and wildlife artists and naturalists. The event also includes guest lectures, workshops for youth and adults, documentary films, live painting demos, music and cultural performances. A percentage of the proceeds from artwork sales are donated to support wildlife and habitat conservation programs. If you haven't already done so, check out the virtual exhibit at www.artistsforconservation.org.
This award-winning piece depicts some of the species David observed during a reference-gathering trip through some of Madagascar National Parks. Where biodiversity is concerned, Madagascar remains one of the most critically threatened areas of the world, with only about 8% of its original forest cover still intact.
