November 2005: David's AFC Flag Expedition dates finalized
The dates for the first ever WNAG Flag Expedition "Observing and Portraying the Harpy Eagle and its Habitat" have been set. On December 1st, David will travel to Panama to spend one month observing, studying, and gathering reference material for the subsequent portrayal of the Harpy Eagle and its habitat.
Thanks to a fellowship grant awarded by the AFC under the AFC's Flag Expeditions Program, the expedition and resulting artwork will be used to support conservation efforts to restore the Harpy Eagle to its historical ranges, while helping to educate the public on the key role this species plays in the maintenance of a healthy ecosystem.
Field and logistics support are being provided by biologist and naturalist guide Guido Berguido of Advantage Panama (www.advantagepanama.com). Guido has been instrumental in helping identify which areas of Panama would offer the greatest chance of success for the Expedition, and we are certain that his knowledge of the local flora and fauna, as well as of the local culture, will prove invaluable.
Extensive coverage of David's expedition and resulting artwork will be posted on the AFC Expedition web site (www.artistsforconservation.org/programs/flag-expeditions).
